The story behind 2026

From Hungary to the European Stage

Some milestones change the scale of a journey.

For Aurora Travel, our nomination for Europe’s Leading Travel Agency 2026 at the World Travel Awards™ was one of them.

After three consecutive nominations for Hungary’s Leading Travel Agency in 2023, 2024 and 2025, our World Travel Awards journey moved beyond the national category in 2026. For the first time, Aurora Travel was named among the nominees for one of the major European travel agency categories.

Only five companies appeared on the official nominee list for Europe’s Leading Travel Agency 2026: Aurora Travel, DERTOUR Reisebüro, Flight Centre, Top Atlântico and Viajes El Corte Inglés.

For a specialist travel company from Hungary, seeing Aurora Travel on that list represented an important moment in our development.

A Different Kind of Milestone

We did not win the European title.

But not every important milestone has to end with a trophy.

This nomination belongs in our Hall of Fame because of what it represented: Aurora Travel had progressed from its first national World Travel Awards™ nomination in 2023 to being named among five nominees for Europe’s Leading Travel Agency just three years later.

The context made the moment particularly meaningful to us. We were appearing alongside established travel businesses operating across major European markets, including companies with significantly larger networks, broader geographical reach and long histories within the travel industry.

Aurora had followed a very different path.

We Chose to Go Deeper, Not Wider

Aurora Travel was founded in Hungary, but our development has increasingly been shaped by one destination: the Maldives.

Rather than attempting to become a travel company covering every destination in the world, we made a deliberate decision to specialise. We wanted to understand one of the world’s most complex luxury island destinations in far greater depth.

That meant travelling repeatedly to the Maldives, developing direct relationships within the destination, experiencing resorts first-hand and learning the differences between islands that can appear remarkably similar when viewed through photographs or hotel descriptions.

Over time, this specialist approach became increasingly central to the identity of Aurora Travel.

We were not trying to become the biggest travel company.

We were trying to become exceptionally knowledgeable about the destination we had chosen to specialise in.

Different Scale. The Same European List.

The companies nominated for Europe’s Leading Travel Agency 2026 came from different markets, different business models and different scales of operation.

That is precisely why this nomination meant so much to us.

Aurora Travel appeared on the same official European nominee list as DERTOUR Reisebüro, Flight Centre, Top Atlântico and Viajes El Corte Inglés.

We do not believe that makes these businesses identical, nor do we believe that size alone defines the quality of a travel company. What it demonstrated was that a highly focused specialist from Hungary could reach the same European awards category as established names from much larger travel markets.

For our team, that was a powerful confirmation of the direction we had chosen.

Specialisation Can Travel Beyond Borders

Our ambition has never been limited by the size of our home market.

The knowledge we build in the Maldives is relevant to travellers regardless of whether they come from Budapest, London, Vienna, Prague or another part of Europe. The fundamental challenge remains the same: understanding hundreds of different island resorts well enough to identify which experience genuinely suits a particular traveller.

That philosophy has shaped Aurora Travel and later became part of the thinking behind AuroraMaldives.com — creating a specialist environment where detailed destination knowledge, resort comparison and technology can work alongside personal travel expertise.

The European nomination therefore represented more than geographical expansion to us.

It showed that specialist knowledge developed in Hungary could have relevance far beyond Hungary.

Four Years of World Travel Awards™

Our World Travel Awards™ story did not happen in a single year.

2023 was our first nomination.

2024 was our return.

2025 established consistency.

2026 took Aurora onto the European stage.

Each step represented something different.

Together, they tell the story of a company whose international presence developed gradually while its strategy became increasingly focused.

The destination at the centre of that strategy remained the same: the Maldives.

A Nomination We Wanted to Remember

Awards are naturally associated with winning. But we believe there are moments on the way that deserve to be remembered as well.

Europe’s Leading Travel Agency 2026 is one of those moments for Aurora Travel.

We did not take home the European title. What we took from the nomination was something different: the experience of seeing a specialist Hungarian travel company we had built appear among only five names selected for the European category.

It was a reminder that a company does not necessarily have to become broader to move forward.

Sometimes going further begins by going deeper.

What it means to our guests

Our guests do not choose Aurora because we appear on an awards list. They choose us because they want someone who genuinely understands the destination they are considering. The European nomination therefore matters to us only when viewed alongside the work behind it: continuously developing our Maldives knowledge, maintaining close relationships within the destination and helping travellers understand the meaningful differences between resorts. A beautiful water villa can be found on many islands. The right island depends on much more — the lagoon, house reef, atmosphere, privacy, restaurants, transfer, activities, family facilities and countless smaller details that shape the experience once a guest actually arrives. Our role is to understand those differences and translate them into better travel decisions. Being nominated for Europe’s Leading Travel Agency was an important milestone for Aurora Travel. Helping each traveller find the Maldives experience that is right for them remains the reason we continue moving forward.
