The story behind 2024
Returning to the World Travel Awards™
In 2023, Aurora Travel received its first nomination at the World Travel Awards™. It was an important moment for our company: the first time our name appeared among the nominees for Hungary’s Leading Travel Agency.
One year later, we returned.
In 2024, Aurora Travel was once again officially nominated for Hungary’s Leading Travel Agency, making it our second consecutive nomination in the category.
For us, the second nomination carried a different meaning from the first. The first represented arrival. The second represented continuity.
From a First Nomination to a Continuing Journey
Recognition becomes more meaningful when it is not an isolated moment.
Between our first World Travel Awards™ nomination in 2023 and our return in 2024, Aurora continued developing around a direction that was becoming increasingly clear: deeper specialisation, stronger first-hand destination knowledge and a more personal approach to travel planning.
The Maldives was becoming central to that direction.
Rather than trying to become a travel company defined by the number of destinations it could sell, Aurora was increasingly building its expertise around a destination we believed could only be understood properly through continuous experience.
Going Deeper into the Maldives
The Maldives may appear simple from a distance: beautiful islands, turquoise lagoons and luxury resorts.
In reality, choosing between Maldives resorts can be remarkably complex.
Two islands at a similar price level can offer completely different experiences. House reef quality, lagoon conditions, vegetation, island size, transfer method, villa privacy, restaurant concepts, family facilities and atmosphere can fundamentally change whether a particular resort is right for a particular traveller.
This is why our approach has increasingly been based on first-hand knowledge.
Over the years, our team has personally experienced more than 150 resorts and islands across the Maldives, while continuing to visit and inspect more than 30 each year. These visits allow us to compare resorts not simply through photographs and descriptions, but through the details that become visible when you actually experience an island.
Building Knowledge That Can Be Used
Visiting resorts alone is not the objective.
The value comes from turning those experiences into useful knowledge for our guests.
We compare islands. We follow changes. We maintain relationships with resorts. We examine the differences between villas, beaches, house reefs, restaurants, transfers and resort concepts. Most importantly, we learn which types of travellers are likely to appreciate those differences.
Because there is no single resort that is right for everyone.
A spectacular house reef may matter enormously to one traveller and very little to another. A small barefoot island may feel like paradise to one couple, while another family may prefer a larger resort with more restaurants, activities and facilities.
Understanding those differences is where specialist knowledge becomes valuable.
Recognition Along the Way
Our second World Travel Awards™ nomination arrived while this specialist direction was continuing to develop.
The World Travel Awards™ programme encompasses national, regional and global categories across the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. In 2024, Aurora Travel appeared among the official nominees for Hungary’s Leading Travel Agency for the second consecutive year.
We did not win the category that year.
But this page is part of our Hall of Fame because our story is not only about the awards we eventually won. It is also about the milestones that show how we reached them.
The 2024 nomination represents one of those milestones.
Continuing to Move Forward
Looking back, 2024 sits between two different stages in our World Travel Awards™ journey.
The first nomination in 2023 opened the door. The second in 2024 showed that the journey was continuing.
What mattered to us was what happened between those moments: more resorts visited, more knowledge accumulated, stronger relationships within the Maldives and a clearer understanding of what Aurora wanted to become.
We were not trying to become everything to everyone.
We were becoming more specialised.

What it means to our guests
Awards and nominations belong to the company, but the knowledge behind them should ultimately benefit the traveller. For our guests, our continued development as a Maldives Specialist means access to recommendations shaped by first-hand resort experience rather than simply brochures, photographs or availability lists. When we recommend an island, we want to understand why it suits that particular traveller. Does the house reef matter? Is a large lagoon more important? Are several restaurants essential? Is the journey for a honeymoon, a family holiday or simply complete escape? Would a small island feel intimate or restrictive? Is a seaplane part of the experience or something the guest would rather avoid? These questions are far more useful than asking which resort is simply “the best”. There is no single best resort in the Maldives. There is only the resort that is right for you. Our role is to use everything we have learned from the destination to help find it.
